The trouser suit has become the outfit most chosen by mothers of the bride and groom. It lasts a whole day, from the town hall to dinner, it is worn with a comfortable heel, and it never feels like a costume. Here is how to choose it, and how to order it from a distance without any unwelcome surprises.

Why a trouser suit rather than a dress

The mother of the bride is photographed almost as much as the couple, and is on her feet for much of the day. The trouser suit answers both: a clean line in the photographs, and a freedom of movement few dresses offer. It is worn again afterwards, the jacket over jeans, the trousers at the office, which a ceremony dress rarely is.

Choosing it well

The jacket

A structured jacket with clean shoulders gives the silhouette its poise. Buttoned, it defines the waist; open, it shows the top worn underneath. See our suit jackets and waistcoats.

The trousers

Palazzo or wide trousers lengthen the silhouette and go with a low heel; straight or cigarette trousers look more formal and are worn with a court shoe. The length is decided with the shoes of the day.

The fabric

Crease-resistant crepe is the safest choice for a long day: it stays crisp after hours seated and travels without ironing. For an evening ceremony, satin or a satin-lapel tuxedo brings the light. All our pieces are machine washable and made in Italy.

Colours

No white, which belongs to the bride, and no head-to-toe black during the day. Beyond that, choose a colour that suits you, and agree with the other family to avoid matching outfits in the photographs.

Ordering from a distance, without surprises

The jacket and trousers are ordered separately, each in its own size: that is the advantage of a suit when you are not the same size on top and below. See the size guide before ordering, and contact us if in doubt.

We deliver to France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Orders placed on a weekday before 3 pm leave the same day; in France, allow one to two working days, by Colissimo with signature on delivery. Exchanges and returns are possible within fourteen days. Everything you need to know to order from Belgium, Switzerland or Luxembourg.

Order at least three weeks before the date: you keep time for a size exchange and an alteration.

Frequently asked questions

Is a trouser suit formal enough for the mother of the bride?
Yes, with a structured jacket and a fine fabric. Worn with a satin or lace top, it is as formal as a dress.

Which colours should be avoided?
White and shades very close to it, which belong to the bride, and head-to-toe black for a daytime ceremony.

How long before the wedding should I order?
At least three weeks, to keep time for a size exchange and an alteration.
