Our subjects
At Imperial, we don't choose a garment by its cut, but by its fabric. It is the fabric that decides whether a jacket will last through the day, whether a pair of trousers will bag at the knees, or whether an outfit will come out of a suitcase ready to wear.
Our materials are categorized by time of day. Most are available in matching jackets and trousers, which allows you to compose an outfit by choosing your size piece by piece.
Everyday
- Crepe — diagonal weave, supple drape, wrinkle-resistant. The choice for women on the go.
- Wool and drapery — the look of cold wool without the maintenance. Our most extensive range.
- Jersey — double-faced, dense knit. Holds its shape at the knees and elbows.
The Weekend
- Knits — tightly knit, they are non-itchy and won't sag at the neckline.
- Milan stitch sweatshirts — relaxation without compromising on the material.
The Evening
- Satin — it catches the light without looking shiny, which matters when the evening will be photographed.
- Lace and transparency — re-embroidered lace, mesh, devoré velvet. Lined.
- Screpino — dense stretch piqué, the material used for our tuxedos. Impeccable hold and freedom of movement.
Winter
- Woolen — coat fabric. It holds the shape of the collar without being heavy.
- Corduroy — it has a direction: light catches it one way and slides off the other.
- Leather and eco-leather — lambskin for items made to last, eco-leather for finishes that real leather doesn't allow.
Patterns
- Stripes, checks, and patterns — houndstooth, Prince of Wales check, tweed, stripes. The pattern is in the fabric, not printed on top.
- Leopard — on a camel and brown background this season, more muted than the beige from five years ago.
One rule applies to everyone: only one patterned piece per outfit, the rest should be solid. And some good news, rare at this price point: everything is machine washable, including wools and formal wear.
The relationship between material, cut, and volume is detailed in the tailor's guide. To feel the fabrics for yourself, visit us at 21 rue du Président Édouard Herriot, Lyon 1st.
